FingerTec has compiled a list of error messages that occasionally occurs during the TimeTec installation and have documented the solutions to the problems. Resellers are encouraged to take note of these problems and provide support when necessary. Understanding the problems and their solutions can reduce support lead-time, which could then translate to more satisfied customers.

Transferring Data Using USB Flashdisk

Monday, February 27, 2012 TimeTec 4 Comments

Most FingerTec terminals come with a USB flash disk port for data transfer via USB flash disk. The disk can be used to download and upload users, and download transaction logs. For installation without communication wiring, this feature is advantageous and it also can work in case of connection failure.

Recently I have received a few support requests from my customers stating that they are experiencing problems while transferring data using the USB flash disk. They have multiple terminals installed and they have successfully downloaded transaction logs into the USB flash disk. When they transfer the transaction logs into the TCMSv2 software, they received an error message. For this scenario, it is most likely that the terminals installed have not been assigned different Device ID.

The FingerTec terminal generates an encrypted TXT file into USB flash disk during every transaction log download process. The file is named as x_attlog.txt, where the "x" is the Device ID. For example, when you download transaction logs from the terminal with Device ID 1, the name of logs file is 1_attlog.txt. If you have multiple terminals, the file name will be 2_attlog.txt, 3_attlog.txt and etc. This can prevent the previously downloaded transaction logs from being overwritten by the newly downloaded transaction loga.

The solution is to assign different Device IDs to the multiple terminals before downloading the transaction logs from the terminals. The Device ID assigned at the terminal must also be the same as the TCMSv2 software.

To configure the Device Number in the terminal: Press Menu>Option>Comm. option>Dev num to assign the Device Number.

Nevertheless, downloading User Info to the USB flash disk must be done terminal by terminal and not all at once. For example, if you are downloading User Info from terminal 1, please make sure that you transfer the information to the TCMSv2 software before proceeding to the next terminal as the newly downloaded User Info will always replace the previously downloaded User Info in the USB flash disk.

TA200 Plus WiFi DHCP

Monday, February 27, 2012 TimeTec 11 Comments

The WiFi is a mechanism that allows electronic devices to exchange data wirelessly over a computer network. The TA200 Plus has an optional connection function using the Wifi to connect to a network resource via a wireless network access point.

The WiFi option allows for an easier device installation without the needs of wiring and facilitates a faster and stable real time transfer of attendance data.

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network configuration protocol for hosts on Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Terminals that are connected to IP networks must be configured before they can communicate with the software. The most essential information needed is an IP address, and a default route and routing prefix. DHCP eliminates the manual task by a network administrator. It also provides a central database of devices that are connected to the network and eliminates duplicate resource assignments.

If you have a problem setting up the configurations for your TA200 Plus WiFi, we have a solution for you. We have developed a firmware and by using the DHCP, you can effortlessly configure the WiFi settings into your terminal.

We have not released the firmware to public yet but we will email it to you upon request. If you are interested to obtain this tool, please send a request email to [email protected].

FingerTec Terminal Function Tool: Enabling the DHCP Option at the Terminal

Thursday, February 02, 2012 TimeTec 3 Comments

The FingerTec Terminal Function Tool is an essential tool for all technical support personnel. The FingerTec Terminal Function Tool supports all FingerTec models and provides useful time attendance and access control features. We can update the required and compatible functions into the terminal by using this tool.

By connecting to the terminal using TCP/IP connection, it is essential to assign an IP address to the terminal using a LAN connection. It is possible to assign an IP address to the terminal by using the DHCP server. A DHCP Server assigns IP addresses to terminals. This is very often used in enterprise networks to reduce configuration efforts.

To enable the DHCP option at the terminal, please refer to the steps below:

1. Insert the Terminal IP and click Connect.

2. Check the DHCP tick box and click Update.

3. After the update, the click Restart to restart the terminal and complete the update.

4. For black and white screen models, press Menu > Options > Comm Opt > DHCP set as Y.
For multimedia models, you do not need to configure any settings.

You may download the FingerTec Terminal Functions Update Tool here.

Incompatibility of Templates between Face ID 2 and Face ID 3

Thursday, February 02, 2012 TimeTec 0 Comments

The Face ID 3 is a new facial recognition time attendance & access control model featuring a new interface for quicker face identification.

If you are currently using Face ID 2 and considering to upgrade to Face ID 3, please be informed that there is a significant difference between face ID 2 and Face ID 3.

You may see the difference below:

Face ID 2:

Face ID 3:

The Face ID 2 uses the face algorithm FTFACE 6.0, while the Face ID 3 uses Biobridge Face VX6.0. Therefore the Face ID 2’s face template is not compatible with Face ID 3. In other words, the Face ID 2’s face template cannot be transferred and used with the Face ID 3.
