AdapTec Plus and AdapTec-X, What’s Your Preference?

Thursday, October 10, 2013 TimeTec 2 Comments

Convenience VS High-Level Security

AdapTec Plus and AdapTec X are designed to support two installation modes; one provides utmost convenience to users and another provides high-level security but slightly compromised in terms of user experience.

Selection of the modes is available by applying different wiring arrangements during installation.

Under Convenient Mode, AdapTec unlocks doors immediately after receiving feedback from FingerTec devices. All FingerTec models support this feature.

For installations using Secure Mode, there will be a 1 second delay during the unlocking of the door after verification is completed at FingerTec devices. This delay is caused by the 26-bit Wiegand transmission of encrypted data from the devices to AdapTec.

This Secure Mode is an optional security feature provided by AdapTec for users who prefer higher level of security over user convenience. It is important to note here that the Secure Mode only delays the response of AdapTec by 1 second and it doesn’t really affect the overall user experience. Nonetheless, for users who refuse to tolerate a slight delay, Convenient Mode is highly recommended.

Please refer to the installer manual of AdapTec Plus and AdapTec X for more details.

Top 5 Reasons to Switch from TCMS V2 to Ingress

Thursday, September 26, 2013 TimeTec 4 Comments

Over-utilizing the knife too much?
When I first got married, there was only one meagre set of cutleries in my kitchen cabinet. It had a single butter knife, and I didn't really mind having to use it to both spread butter on my roll AND cut my steak, even though it was only excellent at one thing and crappy at others. But things have changed now, and I can proudly say that I've upgraded from that set of cutleries to one which had different knives, forks and spoons catered for specific situations. Food Life is better now, thank God. The situation is comparable to the dilemma of some TCMS V2 users.

TCMS V2 is a comprehensive and powerful time attendance management tool and has been used with FingerTec devices for years, constantly evolving through the years to accumulate newer functions and satisfy more needs. However, TCMS V2 is not a cure-for-all and there are certain situations that may be better suited to Ingress, the integrated access control management application. Read more for the top 5 reasons why you should switch from TCMS V2 to Ingress.

Using a USB Flash Disk with Ingress

Wednesday, September 25, 2013 TimeTec 0 Comments

In Ingress, the Advanced Access Control System, users can opt to use a USB flash disk to replace the need for a working Internet connection to connect to FingerTec terminals. This will enable the user to do the following:

1. Download user information from a terminal into a USB flash disk, and import them into Ingress for viewing and managing.

2. Export user information from Ingress into a USB flash disk, and upload the information to a terminal.

3. Download transaction logs (with clocking data) from a terminal into a USB flash disk, and import them into Ingress for viewing and managing.

To perform these functions, you must first go through the terminal activation process in Ingress under Devices. Read more to learn how to add the terminals to be used with USB flash disks, and how to perform the functions mentioned above.
